Glasgow Warriors Sign Former Gloucester Hooker Jack Singleton After Cardiac Scare

Glasgow Warriors have handed former Gloucester player Jack Singleton a short-term contract, a little over a year after he suffered a cardiovascular event on the training pitch in September 2025. The 30-year-old, who holds three England caps, has only recently returned to full training.

Singleton brings a solid record from the English game to the Glasgow squad. He scored 20 tries in 75 appearances for Gloucester, and one of his three international caps came against the USA at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan. His arrival in Scotland ends a long spell away from top-level rugby while his condition was investigated and treated, and it gives the Warriors an experienced option at a position where they expect to be stretched this season.

Speaking about the episode, Singleton said the cause turned out to be a hereditary condition he had known nothing about before it struck. He has since had operations and procedures which, he says, have brought it firmly under control, and he believes he is better protected now than he was while still playing. “I’m in a much safer spot than I was 16 months ago,” he said. He recalled being told in hospital, soon after the event, that he would probably never be cleared to play again, advice he now considers ill-judged. Once the emergency treatment had been completed, cardiologists were consulted and gave him the green light to return.

Head coach Franco Smith views the signing as cover for a crowded international calendar. Gregor Hiddleston and Seb Stephen both won their first Scotland caps over the summer and are expected to be involved in the Nations Championship and the Guinness Six Nations, which will take them away from club duty for long stretches. Smith said the newcomer “brings a wealth of top-flight experience into our environment” and would help the squad through those periods.

The coach added that Singleton had already started to settle in and had shown he was willing to work hard for his teammates and the club. Smith also expects the experienced forward to play a part in developing the Warriors’ three young hookers during his stay. He said Glasgow were pleased to welcome Singleton and were looking forward to working with him over the coming months, as the club juggles domestic fixtures with the demands placed on its Scotland contingent.
