STV Radio presenter Ewen Cameron has been credited with helping to save the life of a woman he found lying injured near a roadside wall. Cameron was driving to Muiravonside Country Park when he noticed a dog standing on the pavement and looking straight at his car, and he pulled over to find out why.
On the other side of the road he spotted what looked like a body lying beside a wall. He braked, got out and confirmed that a woman was lying on the path behind it. She had been out walking two dogs when she was hurt, and had crawled as far as she could before she could go no further. By the time Cameron reached her she had been there for about two hours. She could barely speak and her lips had turned blue. “I genuinely thought we were going to lose her,” he said.
Cameron took off the woman’s jacket and placed it under her head as a pillow, then wrapped her in his own jacket to keep her warm. One of her two dogs was missing. He took the dog that had caught his attention and ran to the houses further down the road, knocking on doors to raise help. The missing dog, a Jack Russell, was found scratching at a neighbour’s door and ran straight inside when the householder answered. Cameron praised the NHS for sending an ambulance quickly and thanked the neighbours who came out of their homes to help while they waited.
The woman has since undergone a major operation. Cameron said she texted him the night before he spoke about the rescue to say she was sitting up and doing well. The woman has not been named, and the nature of her injury has not been made public. Cameron said the first dog deserved much of the credit for stopping him. “Dogs are such wonderful creatures,” he said.
Cameron co-hosts The STV Radio Football Podcast with Ronnie Charters and Callum Bell. The weekly programme takes an in-depth look at Scottish football, and new episodes are released every Monday on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube and STV Player. Muiravonside Country Park, where he had been heading that day, lies between Falkirk and Linlithgow, and he was on his way there when the dog stopped him.
