Aberdeen Investments has appointed Caroline Hertrich to lead its exchange traded fund strategy across the UK and the wider EMEA region, as the asset manager works to expand a business that has grown quickly in the United States. Hertrich takes on the role of head of UK and EMEA ETF strategy.
She joins from Bloomberg, where she led index sales to buy-side clients in the UK and Ireland. Her earlier career included a role at FTSE Russell and senior positions at BlackRock. In total she brings more than 15 years of experience across ETFs, index investing and investment solutions in both European and US markets.
The appointment reflects the firm’s ambition to build on momentum in its ETF operation. In the United States, Aberdeen’s ETF business oversees roughly $21 billion in assets, a figure that doubled over the course of 2025. The company ranks as the third largest manager by assets in the US ETF commodities market.
Steven Dunn, global head of ETFs at Aberdeen Investments, said Hertrich was arriving at a significant moment in the growth of the business. He highlighted her track record and expertise as the firm looks to extend its reach beyond its established American base and into UK and European markets.
Exchange traded funds have become one of the fastest growing corners of asset management, offering investors low cost, easily traded exposure to indices, commodities and other assets. For Aberdeen, strengthening its leadership in the region signals an intent to compete more directly in a segment where scale and distribution carry weight.
The manager has not set out specific targets for the region. Its recent focus has centred on commodities and index-based products, areas that have driven much of the expansion in its American ETF range. Hertrich’s remit spans a region stretching across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, placing her at the centre of the firm’s plans to widen its ETF offering and client base.
